About GTL

Gas to Liquid (GTL) is the term used in a number of processes that converts Natural Gas into Hydrocarbons, Dimethyl Ether and Methanol. GTL processes offer attractive alternatives for monetizing natural gas particularly in countries with large natural gas reserves.

GTL technology has been developed by two scientists Fischer and Tropsch in the 1920s in Germany. The processes are generally referred to as FT process. Since then there has been a lot of improvements which would reduce capital and running costs as well as improving conversion efficiency. Much of the new GTL process enhancements are geared to Middle Distillates particularly Diesel. The GTL products are of premium quality with zero sulphur, low aromatic, smokeless fuel and high cetane.
